Mrs. Laurie States – Principal

Mrs. Laurie States is our principal.  She has a master’s degree in educational leadership (2023) and a bachelor’s degree in secondary math education (2002) from the University of Nebraska at Omaha.  She has obtained her Administrative Certification and Mathematics Certification from both the states of Nebraska and Michigan. 

When asked what she is looking forward to this year, her response was, “Building community and helping to grow the staff, the students and enrollment.” 

Outside of school, Mrs. States enjoys spending time with family, playing board games, fishing, and baking.  She and her husband Dennis, the Bible teacher, have been married for 30 years and have 5 children and 2 grandchildren.   

Mrs. Angela “Angie” Michniewicz – Administrative Assistant

Mrs. Angie is our school administrative assistant.  She joined CCA in the Spring of 2025. 

When asked what she is looking forward to this school year, her response was, “I am looking forward to supporting staff, students and families and helping the school year run smoothly and more efficiently.” Her favorite bible verse is 1Corinthians 13:4-7.

Outside of school, Mrs. Angie enjoys home decorating, gardening, fishing, hiking, and being outdoors.  She and her husband have been married for 20 years, and their son attends CCA.

Mrs. Shalina Stratton Young 5’s and Kindergarten 

Mrs. Shalina Stratton is our Kindergarten teacher.  She holds a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education (2025) from Grand Canyon University.  Mrs. Stratton has been at CCA since Fall 2024. 

When asked what she is looking forward to this year, her response was, “Gaining new knowledge in teaching Young 5s and Kindergarten together and becoming a better teacher with the knowledge I will be gaining.”  Her favorite bible verse is Isaiah 26:3-4. 

Outside of teaching, Mrs. Stratton enjoys spending time with her family, shopping, going on runs, and enjoying the outdoors.  She and her husband, Justin, have two children and a dachshund named Noodle. 

Mrs. Heaven Standish – 1st grade 

Mrs. Heaven Standish is our 1st grade teacher.  She holds a bachelor’s of Fine Arts (2020) from the University of Michigan – Flint.  This is Ms. Heaven’s first year at CCA. 

When asked what she is looking forward to this year, her response was, “I look forward to learning.”  Her favorite bible verse is John 13:16.   

Outside of teaching, Ms. Heaven enjoys visiting museums and attending concerts with her family, drawing, painting, kayaking and hiking.  She and her husband have been married for 20 years and have two children, a daughter and a son. 

Ms. Sarah Schoonover – 2nd Grade

Ms. Sarah Schoonover is our 2nd grade teacher.  She holds a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Baker College (2020).  Ms. Schoonover has been at CCA since Fall 2024. 

When asked what she is looking forward to this year, her response was, “Learning new things and meeting my students.” Her favorite bible verse is Philippians 4:6-7. 

Outside of teaching, Ms. Schoonover enjoys camping, swimming, bible study, and napping.  She has two daughters who attend CenterPoint, a Labrador retriever named Lucy and a cat named Luna. 

Ms. Britta Burak – 3rd & 4th Grade

Ms. Britta Burak is our 3rd and 4th grade teacher.  She holds a bachelor’s degree in Child Development (2023) from Bob Jones University and is currently pursuing her Master’s in Biblical Counseling.  This is her first year teaching at CCA.   

When asked what she is looking forward to this year, her response was, “Being in a new environment and learning alongside the students.”  Her favorite bible verse is Psalm 94:19. 

Outside of teaching, Ms. Burak is learning to crochet, and she enjoys crafting, reading, and watching Michigan sports. Go Blue! 

Mr. Randall Luxton – 5th & 6th Grade

Mr. Randall Luxton is our 5th and 6th grade teacher.  He has a master’s in music education from Oakland University (2001) and a bachelor’s degree in music education from Abilene Christian University.  He has been at CCA since Fall 2022.  Prior to CCA, Mr. Luxton retired after 35 years at Lapeer Public Schools.   

When asked what he is looking forward to this year, his response was, “Teaching in a Christ-centered atmosphere using a Christ-centered curriculum with fellow Christians.” 

Outside of teaching Mr. Luxton enjoys playing the guitar, golf, bicycling and archery. 

Ms. Leanne Pratt – Elementary Art, Music, STEAM and Middle School Art 

Ms. Leanne Pratt is our elementary specials and middle school art teacher.  She holds a bachelor’s degree in English Language Arts with a minor in Elementary Education from Spring Arbor University (2011).  Ms. Pratt has been at CCA since Fall 2023.    

When asked what she is looking forward to this year, her response was, “Teaching art to the students and watching them learn and grow in the Lord.”  Her favorite bible verse is Romans 8:28. 

Outside of teaching, Ms. Pratt enjoys photography, travel, and spending time with friends and family.  

Mr. Ed Walthers – Social Studies

Mr. Ed Walthers is our middle school and high school social studies teacher.  He has a master’s degree in Public Administration (1999) from Central Michigan University and a bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education (1992) from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale.  He has been at CCA since Fall 2023. Prior to joining CCA, Mr. Walthers retired from Flint Public Schools after 26 years of service. 

When asked what he is looking forward to this year, his response was, “Working with students.”  His favorite bible verse is Titus 2:7. 

Outside of teaching, Mr. Walthers enjoys camping, reading, and activities with his wife, Laura, and their family.  They have been married for 38 wonderful years and have three sons. 

Mr. Andrew Merchak – Math

Mr. Andrew Merchak is our middle school and high school math teacher.  He holds a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and Secondary Education (1987) from Saginaw Valley State University.  He has been at CCA since Fall 2024.  Prior to joining CCA, Mr. Merchak retired from the National Security Agency after 35 years as a cryptanalyst.  

When asked what he is looking forward to this year, his response was, “Helping students grow and develop into young men and women.” His favorite chapter of the bible is Ecclesiastes 1.    

Outside of teaching, Mr. Merchak enjoys golfing, taking his dog for a walk, playing cards and challenging his wife in a game of scrabble.  They have 4 sons and 5 grandchildren.
